Eptec's research into Bio-Fuels is a case in point. The government is offering generous incentives to encourage the use of alternative fuels and Eptec is involved with discovering how these new fuels will perform with current technology. Eptec's expertise in helping to design experiments, including fundamental research and high-level learning allows us to approach problems with imaginative and intelligent solutions.
We have been working closely with companies to assess the to asses the environmental impact of combustion using more sustainable fuels, as well as trying to improve the impact of traditional fuels. Industry does not yet know how existing systems will work when fuel characteristics change - such as the move from oil-based to bio-diesels. Eptec is working hard to find out. For example, our research into the affect of new fuels on O-rings and washers in engines is helping industry to determine how new fuels will affect all aspects of engine performance.
Eptec is also working with industry to help design the fuels of the future. What will they be produce from, how will they be made and how will these alternative fuels sources impact upon legacy systems. Eptec is working to find answers to these fundamentally important questions.
We are also able to offer a rigorous testing facility - allowing us to test both multiple fuels on a single combustor, and a single alternative fuel on a range of combustors.
Our supercomputer modeling facility, in conjunction with Leeds, Sheffield and York Universities, allows Eptec to cut both the time and costs involved in alternative fuel and combustion research. This allows us to work in an integrated fashion with our research labs and testing facilities at Beighton to model the burner and engine designs that will be used in the future. In this way Eptec offers a holistic view of our fuel future.
