The University of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield is one of the leading universities in the
UK, recently acclaimed as "a top university across the board” by the
Virgin 2005 Alternative Guide to British Universities. The University
is rated highly across a wide range of subjects for teaching quality
and research. It is home to more than 25,000 students, from 116
countries, and almost 6000 staff. Research partners and clients include
Boeing, Rolls Royce, Unilever, Boots, AstraZeneca, GSK, ICI, Slazenger,
and many more household names, as well as UK and overseas government
agencies and charitable foundations. The University's history stretches
back to 1828, when the Sheffield School of Medicine was founded, and
the University Charter was granted in 1905.
The University of Leeds
The University of Leeds is acclaimed world-wide for the quality of its
teaching and research. One of the largest universities in the UK, Leeds
is also the most popular among students applying for undergraduate
courses. An emphasis on innovative research and investment in
high-quality facilities and first-rate infrastructure means that no
fewer than 35 departments are rated internationally or nationally
'excellent'. The University boasts 32,241 students, 700 different
first-degree programmes and 474 postgraduate degree programmes. The
University attracts more industrial funding than any other in the UK
and also invests its own resources in helping organisations turn
university research into world-class products and services.
